Euro-6 Engine Management System

Based on the latest technologies, EFI has developed a new series of 32-bit high tech ECU’s. Euro-6 is a high tech ECU developed from our top-of-the range Euro-12 and is in particular developed for use in sports cars and touring cars, in rallying and as a development ECU for automotive engine development. The ECU is designed around one of the fastest microprocessors available and has a high level of facilities, including ASAP3 communication with AVL’s Puma system.

Euro-6 features closed loop fuel control and self-mapping fuel injection strategy based on the use of both standard and linear lambda sensors, a closed loop self-mapping boost control strategy and programmable knock control. In addition, the ECU is fitted with an on-board high-speed data logger with 8 Mb memory capacity.

The ECU crank- and camshaft sensor inputs can be configured for either magnetic or Hall effect sensors. Furthermore, several individually configurable NTC temperature sensors can be attached, as well as several individually configurable 0-5 volt analogue inputs are available.

Euro-6 was selected by TOCA as the control ECU to use on all BTCC Touring cars for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 season.

Features

  • Up to 8 cylinders, naturally aspirated or turbo charged (even / odd fire) with full sequential or grouped fuel control; RPM in excess of 20,000 RPM.

  • Two-dimensional mapping using throttle, MAP or MAF as load expression.

  • Three-dimensional mapping combining MAP and throttle as engine load expression.

  • 3 independent fully driver selectable engine maps.

  • Automatic self-mapping fuel management using a lambda target map.

  • Sophisticated closed loop fuel control using a lambda target map.

  • Drive-by-Wire throttle control.

  • Programmable knock control.

  • Comprehensive self-mapping boost control with ATL and upper/lower waste gate pressure control.

  • Variable camshaft position control.

  • 8 dedicated software configurable Multi Function Input / Outputs (MFIO).

  • Closed loop idle speed control.

  • Built-in controller for a NTK linear lambda sensor.

  • 9 analogue 0-5 volt inputs and 4 NTC temperature sensor inputs (user linked to car control functions).

  • 4 wheel speed sensor inputs along with 2 additional frequency inputs i.e. for turbo speed.

  • On-board hi-speed 64 channel data acquisition with 8 Mb memory capacity.

  • Current loop link for data export to external in-car logging systems.
